London national workshop

The eceee energy sufficiency project held a national workshop in London in February 2019. It focused on energy sufficiency in transport and urban planning. The workshop brought together stakeholders from the UK and elsewhere in Europe to discuss issues such as urban design, finding an acceptable replacement for cars, and infrastructure to support transport sufficiency.

Urban planning and transport infrastructure both have important roles to play in enabling greater energy sufficiency. The design of our buildings and cities can be changed to allow us to live less energy intensive lives that are also healthier. This workshop included presentations on urban design, concepts in transport sufficiency, and transport policy and planning in Greater London. Discussions included the benefits of greater sufficiency and whether the changes needed will be acceptable to citizens and politicians.
